Rainbowfish


  • The rainbowfish are a family (Melanotaeniidae) of little, beautiful, freshwater angle found in northern and eastern Australia, New Guinea, islands in Cenderawasih Bay, and the Raja Ampat Islands in Indonesia. 

  • The biggest rainbowfish family, Melanotaenia, gets from the antiquated Greek melano (dark) and taenia (joined). 
  • Deciphered, it signifies "dark grouped", and is a reference to the regularly striking parallel dark groups that keep running along the assortments of those in the Melanotaenia variety.
